what has been on my mind/crazy week!
first things first!
this past week has been CRAZY full of shows. monday saw real live tigers and jordaan mason in my livingroom with myself and my new 'band' holding hands in the attic (we're cute - we're composed of two couples + rob). wednesday saw the return of jason anderson with the wonderful thanksgiving. i also opened up with a full band (alex, tim, and rob) and the response was good. it was the first time i had ever done that kind of thing. we recorded both shows with one single solitary mic in the corner of our living room. i was excited to get the chance to record the most incredible set i've ever seen/heard jason anderson play. the positive vibe has been stuck in 265-a for a while, but more on that later. the recordings all sound real nice! a few days off and a few loud band practices later, i played with my other rock band good friends with sharp scissors at the bug jar. we played with a city safe from sea and as some of you may remember two of their members come from the hue of two fame. it was real nice to see dan again, as i hadn't seen him since he moved back home to mass. it was equally as good to see justin but i had seen him a little before when he came to finish his thesis. and as always it was good to see swift and hear all of his incredibly hillarious stories. also that night i received a call from nat and he and some of the dirty projectors needed a place to crash and split up a long drive. as my apartment is always open, we of course let them crash here. it was good to see nat again, thought it hadn't been too long. we were a bit more subdued in our partying this time, possibly due to the fact that it was a monday night, but none the less a good time. if you are reading this and i don't know you and you have the chance to catch the dirty projectors anywhere ever, do it! they are real nice guys who play real awesome music.
so the positive vibe has been hanging around here! thank goodness! i'm not sure if it's left over from the jason anderson show or if it's the weather, but gosh! i can't help but love everything right now! while i had woken up yesterday faced with tons of negativity, my day ended up great and positive. i've always tried to live life as a nice guy, in the sense that i dislike it when anyone is a jerk to me, so why should i be a jerk to them? and i also just can't understand not being able to be nice to someone you don't know (or know for that matter). hate for that matter too, i just don't get. ok, enough of me being stoked on life and voicing it.
one thing that i've been noticing recently is that the term 'indie' is being used to sum up a lot of bands and their genre/sound. while i feel a band like pavement is an 'indie' sounding band (along with all the other 90's matador records bands etc..) i just don't think indie is anything more than saying you're independant. i guess it's also a mindset. kind of like punk. neither really exist with a certain musical style anymore (as far as i'm concerned) and are more so just a set of ideals about avoiding that which ruins music (corporate record labels unconcerned with the sincerity of music and more interest in marketing a look).
keep things simple and honest!
